Microsoft will end support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. After this date, Windows 10 devices will no longer receive security updates. Without these critical security patches, devices will become increasingly vulnerable to cyberattacks, malware, and data breaches that could compromise sensitive District information. To protect District systems, maintain a modern technology environment, and keep tools working properly, these devices must be moved to Windows 11 (if compatible) or replaced as soon as possible. This communication outlines steps to be taken to determine device eligibility, options for non-compatible devices, and available technical support to assist in this transition.

What We’re Asking of You

• Identify and implement a plan for older devices that cannot be upgraded: replace them with newer devices or retire them.

• Back up your files to One Drive to ensure data is protected in case of any technical issues associated with the update.

How ITS Will Support You

• Our IT support team is available to assist with compatibility checks, upgrades, data backup and transfer, and post-upgrade troubleshooting.

Beginning in October 2025, any device that does not meet District security standards will face restrictions over time.

• Network Access: These devices will lose access to critical systems, including Welligent, MiSiS, and other core applications.
  

• IT Support: Over time, support for non-compliant devices will be reduced and may eventually stop altogether.

To avoid disruptions, all devices must be brought into compliance with security requirements before this deadline.

The Los Angeles Unified School District is replacing Workspace ONE with JAMF Connect and JAMF Pro to manage Apple devices. With JAMF, ITS can centrally set up, secure, and support all district iPads and MacBooks, installing apps, pushing updates, enforcing security settings, and connecting devices to district resources automatically. For staff, this means stronger protection, faster updates, and seamless sign-in using LAUSD credentials, all without needing to visit a help desk.

Key Updates

• Simpler Logins – JAMF Connect lets you sign in with your LAUSD credentials. We recommend backing up your data in Microsoft OneDrive, which is already installed on all devices. A step-by-step job aid is found linked here and below.

• Better Management – JAMF Pro improves deployment, security, and device functionality.
• Smooth Transition – IT will guide the process with minimal disruption.

iPads: Wipe Required
All non-school district iPads will be automatically wiped (erased) on September 19, 2025. This is required to enroll devices into JAMF. The iPad will be restored as a new device requiring login.

• Please back up files and photos before September 19. If you backed up your files, you can recover your data after initial set up.

• Any data not backed up cannot be recovered.

Note: Schools have already completed this transition. This step applies only to iPads assigned to non-school departments and offices.

MacBooks: Migration
District MacBooks will not be wiped. Instead, a migration tool will move devices into JAMF without erasing data.

• Users will receive prompts to complete the migration.
• Your files, settings, and applications will remain intact.
